In order to shape the literary atmosphere on campus and promote the infusion of literature into daily life, the NPUST Library and Center for General Education Center have been organizing \u201cReading Season\u201d activities for six consecutive years now. The activities are designed not only to encourage students develop reading habits, but also to write, create, publish and share. As part of the activity a call for papers was opened from September 11 to November 13, during which time a total of 442 valid manuscripts came in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On December 4th<\/sup>, a special \u201cNinety-Nine Loves Reading\u201d and Christmas Lighting Ceremony event was held at the Library to encourage participants, and bring added attention to iRead eBooks and other features of the program. NPUST\u2019s President, Chin-Lung Chang, participated in the event together with Director Shan-Ru Chao, Center for General Education Director Kuo-An Wang, Vice-President for Education Shang-Min Ma, and many other university executives and representatives of the digital reading company, Airiti Inc<\/p>\n\n\n\n In his speech President Chin-Lung Chang said \u201cduring the university\u2019s 99th anniversary, the theme of \u2018NPUST Ninety-Nine Literary Fun\u2019 was adopted to encourage the diversification of reading forms and activities. A series of 13 activities were planned along the four main axes of \u201cCreation & Appreciation\u201d, \u201cReading & Sharing\u201d, \u201cImages, Art and Literature\u201d, and \u201cRewards & Borrowing\u201d. Congratulations to all the award-winning students, and thank you to everyone who participated and shared the beauty of reading. I wish everyone a Merry Christmas.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n The first 20 writing contributors will receive the \u201cEarly Bird Award\u201d for the first stage of the program. After the submission deadline, teachers from university\u2019s Chinese language division will then reviewer the works to select 30 finalists for the second stage. After that 8 winners will be selected in the third stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The promotional activities also emphasize the value of digital materials, such as iRead eBooks. With the rapid development of mobile communications and information mediums, the university library is actively promoting digital reading. Through experiential sharing activities, teachers and students are provided with tips on how to make good use of e-books to expand their knowledge, and cultivate their bodies and minds.
