In order to promote international academic exchange and deepen cooperative relations with sister universities, the NPUST College of Engineering welcomed 11 students from King Mongkut\u2019s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) in Thailand on June 2 (2025) for a two-month summer internship program. The participating students were divided into several labs for the program, including Professor Chin-Lung Chang\u2019s laser processing laboratory at the Department of Vehicle Engineering, Assistant Professor Wei-Yu Chen\u2019s functional materials and analytical technology laboratory at the Department of Materials Engineering, Assistant Professor Yen-Yu Chen\u2019s precision ceramics laboratory at the same department, and Professor Wen Tzong Lee\u2019s automatic optical detection laboratory at the Department of Biomechatronics Engineering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Professor Chin-Lung Chang, who is also the president of NPUST, said that \u201cthis program originated from the 2017 Taiwan-KMUTT Internship Program (TKIP). In that year, under a Ministry of Education pilot program to send excellent young students to study abroad at renowned organizations, Taiwan University of Science and Technology Alliance members, including NPUST, NTUST and CSU jointly sent 18 students to Thailand for short-term summer internships at businesses in Thailand. The program allowed for enhanced mutual understanding between the young people on both sides and helped promote citizen diplomacy. In the following years, with the efforts of schools from both countries, more than 100 students from the alliance have been sent to Thailand for internships and training. After graduation, these students entered the workforce to become outstanding contributors to international industries in different fields\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Professor Tien-Chien Chen, Dean of the College of Engineering, said that \u201cinternationalization is one of the development priorities of the College of Engineering. Through such overseas internship programs, the academic ties between the two schools can be strengthened.
