NPUST is the host institution for the Association of Chinese College and University Faculty Slow Pitch Softball Committee and has been hosting the Republic of China College and University Faculty Slow Pitch Softball Championship for seven consecutive years. The 2019 Championship took place from August 30 to September 2 at the university’s baseball field.
The tournament kicked off with matches between National Taiwan Ocean University and Aletheia University, as well as National Chung Hsing University and China Medical University. The opening ceremony was held on August 31 at noon, presided over by Dr. Chen Jui-Jen, the Vice President for Academic Affairs of the university. Officials, including Director Lin Hsiu-Ching from the Association of Chinese College and University Faculty, attended the event to offer guidance.
In previous years, an average of about 14 teams participated in the Championship. Despite the delay caused by the COVID-19 pandemic this year, the enthusiasm of faculty members from various colleges and universities for sports remained high. The participating teams included representatives from National Cheng Kung University, Chung Shan Medical University, National Chung Cheng University, National Taiwan Sport University, National Chung Hsing University, National Chiayi University, Ming Chuan University, National Tsing Hua University, China Medical University, National Taiwan University, National Dong Hwa University, National Chiao Tung University, National Taipei University of Technology, and the host institution. Additionally, this year marked the first participation of National Taiwan Ocean University. Approximately 500 faculty members from 15 institutions across northern, central, and southern Taiwan competed.
After three days of intense competition and nearly 34 games, National Cheng Kung University secured the championship, achieving a back-to-back victory. National Tsing Hua University claimed the runner-up position, while National Chung Hsing University took third place, and National Taiwan Sport University secured the fourth spot. The event concluded with a perfect blend of sweat and laughter, and it is hoped that more colleges and universities will join in the future to make the tournament even more vibrant.
