On January 3rd, NPUST, in cooperation with Linluo Elementary School and Linluo Township Farmers’ Association in Pingtung County, jointly organized a tomato farming and agricultural education event at the Rainbow House of Linluo Elementary School. This event integrated activities such as “Understanding Tomato Varieties in the Field,” “Fun Tomato Harvesting,” and “Tomato Noodle Soup Making.” Participants learned to make local Hakka-flavored noodle soup, cultivating simple cooking skills and fostering an appreciation for food and the importance of reducing waste. The Office of Extension and Continuing Education at our university collaborates with local elementary schools to promote agricultural education, emphasizing the coexistence of agriculture and ecology as part of the university’s social responsibility. This initiative considers agricultural education a mission, aiming to cultivate children’s understanding of diverse agricultural practices and enhance their awareness of food sources. It also focuses on strengthening students’ knowledge of crop production and culinary skills at the dining table, reflecting the growing importance of education in these areas.
