NPUST has been hosting the Taiwan Education Center in Thailand for ten consecutive years since 2013, organizing the Taiwan Education Expo. This event serves as a platform for educational connections between Taiwan and Thailand, fostering exchanges and cooperation in higher education, promoting understanding of Taiwanese higher education among Thai students, and encouraging Thai students to apply for studies in Taiwan. The online education expo, inaugurated on July 18th in a virtual reality (VR) format, was jointly opened by Director Li Yen-Yi of the International and Cross-Strait Education Division of the Ministry of Education, Deputy Representative Xue Xiu-Mei of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand, and President Dai Chang-Hsien of our university. The expo features specialized areas in humanities and social sciences, business and financial management, science and engineering, medicine, and Chinese language education. A total of 62 Taiwanese universities, colleges, and Chinese language centers participated in this grand event. The expo includes rich and distinctive programs, scholarships, application procedures, and real-time interactive Q&A sessions. Thai students who have studied in Taiwan will also share their experiences. The event is expected to attract over 10,000 Thai students and parents to participate online.
Director Li Yen-Yi of the International and Cross-Strait Education Division delivered the opening speech, expressing gratitude to the Taiwan Education Center in Thailand for organizing the online education expo and consistently promoting educational exchanges between Taiwan and Thailand. He highlighted the effective epidemic prevention measures implemented by Taiwanese universities to provide a safe learning environment, in accordance with the policies of the Central Epidemic Command Center. Director Li emphasized the Ministry of Education’s commitment to Taiwan-Thailand educational cooperation, noting the increasing number of Taiwan scholarships provided to Thai students, with 20 scholarship quotas offered for the 2022-2023 academic year, supporting Thai students pursuing degrees in Taiwan and studying Chinese. President Dai Chang-Hsien delivered a speech, expressing special thanks to the Thai government and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand for their assistance and guidance. He encouraged all participating students and teachers to seize the opportunity to negotiate with Taiwanese school representatives and obtain information related to studying in Taiwan. President Dai also encouraged Thai students to experience the seven unique colleges at NPUST dedicated to innovation and sustainable development, wishing them a fruitful and bright future. Deputy Representative Xue Xiu-Mei of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand also addressed the audience, praising Taiwan’s higher education institutions for their excellent quality, which has gained international recognition. According to the 2022 QS World University Rankings, ten Taiwanese universities are among the top 500 in the world. Taiwan is renowned for its open academic environment and stable society, making it an attractive destination for Thai students to study. Deputy Representative Xue encouraged Thai students to immerse themselves in Taiwanese culture, establish international connections, and broaden their horizons.
The education expo takes place from July 18th to July 22nd on a virtual reality platform. Students can browse information about Taiwanese higher education, Chinese language learning, and admission details from participating schools through computers or smartphones. They can participate in real-time admission briefings and ask questions through each school’s dedicated message board. School representatives will reply in English and Thai. The estimated total view count is expected to surpass 30,000.
The Thai government has a visionary approach to higher education, recognizing that quality education can empower people to drive national development. The purpose of the Taiwan Education Expo is to introduce Taiwan’s excellent higher education to Thai students and strengthen educational cooperation and exchanges between Taiwan and Thailand. The Ministry of Education expects this expo to serve as a good platform for continued communication, allowing more Thai students to become acquainted with Taiwan’s quality higher education and reinforcing the friendly partnership between Taiwan and Thailand.
