Under the guidance of the Ministry of Education, our university has established a Vision Program in collaboration with the Taiwan Children and Family Assistance Foundation (Central Association of Family Assistance Centers). This program aims to recruit economically disadvantaged and outstanding high school/vocational students nationwide. The Vision Program, recommended by Professor Xu Zigui of the College of Genius, had four students, namely Chen Jianli, Chen Yuzhang, Guo Renjie, and Zeng Peiling, participating in the selection for the “Rotary’s Children” in District 3510 of Rotary International. They were honored with scholarships for outstanding students in financial need. On December 27, the Rotary Club of Agongdian in Rotary District 3510 donated scholarships to outstanding financially disadvantaged students at NPUST. The recipients were encouraged to uphold moral character, strive for academic excellence, and cultivate a spirit of gratitude while learning to serve others. President Dai Chang-hsien welcomed a visit from President Chen Han-chia of the Agongdian Rotary Club and four others, including Chairman Guo Qinghe of Kuo-Meng Company, to the university. A photo was taken with the scholarship recipients.
President Dai Chang-hsien said, “Through the scholarship assistance from the Rotary Club, I hope that students can better understand the principle of helping oneself and helping others. By relying on one’s own strength, one can stand up, and then others will be willing to help. I hope that the students receiving the scholarships today can learn from the advanced spirit of the Rotary Club, understand the advanced struggle process, and set a goal to find their own interests and strengths on their learning path, working hard to achieve more accomplishments.” President Chen Han-chia of the Agongdian Rotary Club said, “Donating scholarships is a small seed. I hope it can be planted in the hearts of the students who receive it today. I hope that when you have the ability in the future, you can also give back to society and contribute to the cycle of goodness. Rotary International has various forms of youth service, not only financial support but also assistance on campuses, workplaces, communities, and more. I hope that each of you can contribute your strength in the near future and spread goodwill to give back to society.”
The main donors for this scholarship were Chairman Guo Qinghe and his wife from Kuo-Meng Company. Their main business is the production of steel wire drawing screws. They are exemplary successful entrepreneurs who often use holidays to go deep into remote tribes with the Hengshan Foundation to assist in repairing homes for poor families and donate student desks. Chairman Guo shared his experience of starting a business from scratch, encouraging students to always maintain a grateful heart, be humble, and strive for self-improvement.
Rotary’s Children: Since 2011, Rotary District 3510 has initiated the “Rotary’s Children” adoption project, delivering resources and love to those in need. Over the past ten years, 3,221 economically disadvantaged students have benefited from this project, with donations totaling nearly NT$50 million. The assisted students, grateful for the help from the Rotary Club, have also aspired to become helpers in the future, collectively sowing seeds of love and hope.
