Over the years, NPUST has regularly hosted on-campus job recruitment fairs for students preparing to enter the job market. These recruitment activities, which are the largest in the Pingtung area, are sponsored by the Ministry of Labor Workforce Development Agency, and regularly attract major companies from a wide variety of industries.
The 2021 Talent Recruitment Fair was held at the second floor of the IH Building on May 6th, this year. At the opening ceremony, NPUST’s president, Chang-Hsien Tai, made some remarks, stating that “NPUST has always emphasized the importance of cross-discipline learning, language acquisition, digital skill enhancement and workplace ethics. During their time in school, our students are also required to accumulate practical experience through off-campus internships and practicums. This allows business to get familiar with the diversified knowledge of the students from NPUST. As evidence of the high expectations that businesses have for the students of this school, although there are only 2,800 graduates this year, nearly 3,000 high-quality job vacancies are being offered here today. In the past few years, in such areas as smart agriculture, smart machinery, AI, and big data, teachers from different departments and fields have been developing new technologies that have been well received by businesses, such drones and unmanned vehicles used for agriculture. As a result, businesses are very interested in developing long-term cooperation with the school, and are setting up a research centers to cultivate a new generation of outstanding talent.”
Tai-Yun Cheng, the director of the regional branch of the Workforce Development Agency, also made remarks at the opening of the event, stating that “the joint efforts made by students and teachers at NPUST have attracted a very large number of outstanding businesses, which are enthusiastic to be here today. Today they can see the talent and the quality of the university and use this platform to present excellent job opportunities to the students. We wish the students all the best.”
After the dance club kicked things off with a lively hip-hop performance, the atmosphere was set and the vigor and vitality of the students could be felt. NPUST’s president was joined by VIPs from government and business sectors, and 13 of the 19 major industries listed on the Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics’ index were present. A total of 31 listed companies participated, including ASE Semiconductor, HIWIN, Yieh United Steel Corp., Yageo, An-Shin Food Services, Charoen Pokphand Enterprise, to name a few. These companies were offering nearly 3,000 high-quality job vacancies for students enrolled in the university’s various colleges—and in addition to these, the Recruitment Center for National Armed Forces also had 8,443 job vacancies posted for interested students. There were an average of 38 businesses recruiting students from each of NPUST’s six colleges. On the high end was the College of Management, with 63 and on the low end was the College of Veterinary Medicine, still with 21 distinguished companies looking for employees.
Recruiters all publicly disclose recruitment salaries in accordance with the provisions of the Employment Service Act, so that job seekers had a clearer understanding of what they would be signing up for. They also provided details about the job descriptions, so that the graduating students would be more equipped to make smooth transitions to the workplace. Each year, the fair is held with the goal of matching graduating students with employers and helping them prepare to enter the workplace. Although last year’s fair was moved online out of precaution for the epidemic, this year, the fair was held in-person once again, allowing recruiters and students to sit down face-to-face as they shared their expectations and discussed the possibilities that future cooperation could hold.
