On March 3rd, Director Jie-Lun Chiang and four students of the NPUST Department of Soil and Water Conservation set up shop at Pingtung County’s Min Park to hold educational activities for visitors who came for the 2022 Environment & Disaster Prevention Results Exhibition. The exhibition included 40 booths which gave visitors a chance to view the results of work being done on environment and disaster prevention education in Pingtung and it also allowed them to participate in activities designed to share the experience of study in this field.
In order to bring that experience out to the people, the team from NPUST moved part of the school’s “Outdoor Classroom for Soil and Water Conservation” to the event site. The Outdoor Classroom, which took a year to create, integrates multimedia teaching materials and mobile technology to facilitate learning by providing high-quality and conveniently-accessed educational contents. Using the global positioning feature on smart phones, the APP can automatically provide information on the conservation methods being used on vegetation and sloping landscapes in nearby areas and provide users with related graphics or audio-visual multimedia. Oriented towards high school students and the general public, the APP is easy to use can help people get familiar with soil and water conservation. It can also be used as a tool for farmers looking for advice on maintaining sloping farms.
