On April 6th (2022), a signing ceremony took place at the university library with NPUST President Chang-Hsien Tai and Hakka Culture Development Center Director Jin-liang He putting ink to an agreement of cooperation between the two organizations. The agreement focuses on cooperation for the promotion of Hakka and ethnic relations, museology and other fields of academic research and cultural education. The aim is to make effective use of the resources of both parties, create more opportunities for cooperation and exchange, and make greater contributions to the education of the youth in the country.
NPUST’s President, Chang-Hsien Tai, said: “each ethnic group has its own unique culture; one of which is the Liudui Hakka culture. The Hakka cultural industry research taking place at NPUST is devoted to the study of Hakka culture and talent discovery. And so, once again we thank the Hakka Affairs Council for helping NPUST to experience a more diversified form of development, and we hope that in the future we will be able to further contribute talent and resources.”
Kung-Chao Chung, vice-chairman of the Hakka Affairs Council, said that “through cooperation with NPUST we have discovered more Hakka talent and local culture. And through the Liudui Hakka Games film exhibition, NPUST students from different areas of the county can get an understanding of the Liudui Hakka cultural characteristics, so that they can carry forward the spirit of Liudui.”
Hakka Culture Development Center Director Jin-liang He said “in recent years the Hakka Culture Development Center has been actively establishing cooperation with academic organizations through a museum platform model. We hope that with this current agreement with NPUST, we will be able to add depth and strength to the connotations the museum’s topics and increase the power of Hakka, so that the general public and different ethnic groups can have a better understanding of Hakka culture. We also hope to continue to deepen the cooperation between the two parties in the future as we look forward to becoming the best example of industry-government-university research cooperation.”
The focus of future cooperation between the two parties includes (1) research, archiving, exhibition, education, forums and publication; (2) co-employment of staff from both parties or guest appointments; (3) teaching, internships and research training for co-operating researchers, graduate students and undergrads; (4) mutual support and sharing of such things as library resources, books and documents, venues, facilities, and equipment, and (5) other cooperation matters agreed by both parties.
This year the 57th Liudui Games will take place, and the Hakka Culture Development Center is working to collect old photos, audio recordings and videos that capture bits of history from the Zhongdui / Zhutien area as well as from previous Liudui Games. Plans are also in place for the Video Touring Exhibition of the Liudui Games to set up at the first floor of the NPUST Library and Conference Hall from March 27th to April 21st in order to young college students to the history and culture of the Liudui Games.
