The NPUST Department of Aquaculture and Asia Nutrition Technologies (ANT) signed an agreement at ceremony held at the NPUST Administration Hall on Sept 13th, 2022. University representatives, led by President Chin-Lung Chang, were joined by members of ANT, including company chairman, Lieh Chun Huang, for the important occasion.

NPUST President Chin-Lung Chang expressed his gratitude towards the chairman of ANT, saying “through the signing of this MOU, NPUST students will have an excellent opportunity to go abroad for internships. Students will be able to broaden their horizons while also obtaining valuable experiences and improving themselves by observing and working in overseas markets. Through the cooperation between the two parties, the scope of students’ learning will not be limited by geography, and they will be in a better position to absorb the nutrients of internationalization.” Chairman Huang of ANT said, “it is a great honor to cooperate with NPUST. We hope to encourage more students to take advantage of their time studying in school to continue to improve themselves, so as to enhance their future job competitiveness. At the same time, this is an opportunity to cultivate outstanding talents for related industries.”

The director of the Department of Aquaculture, Chun-Hung Liu, said “the students trained by the Department of Aquaculture at NPUST are very solid when it comes to both academics and technical practice. The university has also supported the construction of an aquatic conservation center which will carry out breeding research on protected fish and shrimp species. This will allow students to become more specialized in their majors, and also help enhance the development of Taiwan’s aquaculture industry.”

This strategic alliance will focus on creating off-campus internships for students from the Department of Aquaculture. In the future, ANT will provide students with internship opportunities in Vietnam, so they can increase their practical and technical experience, practice foreign languages, and observe overseas market operations. At the same time, the pioneering research and development taking place at the NPUST Department of Aquaculture will have greater opportunity to make its way into the industry and make a broader impact.

ANT is a multinational cooperative enterprise that develops livestock and aquaculture feed products in Vietnam, and is a leading enterprise in the animal feed industry. Currently, it is actively expanding its aquafeed-related business, an area in great need of professional talent. After the company established its first factory in Dong Nai (Vietnam) in 1995, it expanded to Hai Duong, Long An, Binh Dinh and Binh Duong, with a total of five factories. The alliance between NPUST and ANT came about through an introduction made by the Department of Aquaculture Alumni Association Chairman, Fu-Chin Chen. Chen previously served at Nutri-Potential Biotechnology Co., Ltd, and has mentored many newcomers in the aquafeed industry.

As a comprehensive university based on agriculture, NPUST is applying concepts of sustainable production as it cultivates young talent. The school is making major contributions to production management in agriculture, forestry, fishery and animal husbandry and also to the development of safe aquafeed. As it cooperates with international manufacturers to cultivate talent needed by the industry, NPUST looks forward the new goals it is setting for eco-friendly aquaculture in its new alliance with Asia Nutrition Technologies.
