NPUST Dept. of Hotel and Restaurant Management Signs Strategic Alliance with Crowne Plaza Tainan

On October 27th, 2022, Crowne Plaza Tainan of the InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) signed a strategic alliance agreement with the NPUST Department of Hotel and Restaurant Management. The agreement, which will focus on talent training and internships, was signed by NPUST President Chin-Lung Chang and Crowne Plaza Tainan General Manager Hsin Yi Lin at the Department of Hotel and Restaurant Management VIP Restaurant.

In recent years, the Department of Hotel and Restaurant Management has been cooperating with an increasing number of businesses in its effort to cultivate talent, develop curriculum, create internship opportunities and open doors for future employment. They have also been using their cooperative relationships to promote CSR X USR (corporate and university social responsibility) and contribute to society and local communities.

NPUST President Chin-Lung Chang said “when cultivating talent, the school needs to provide field internships that are close to the business environment so that students can quickly integrate with the business sector when they graduate. The Department of Hotel and Restaurant Management has the support of a new partner with Crowne Plaza, and in the future we trust that there will be more opportunities for talent cultivation and the planning and designing of curriculum and internships so that students of the Department of Hotel and Restaurant Management can train their skills and gain an advantage for future employment.”

Crowne Plaza Tainan General Manager Hsin Yi Lin said “Crowne Plaza is very happy to sign this strategic alliance agreement with NPUST. In the future, we will be able to provide a training platform for NPUST students so that they can strengthen their ‘combat readiness’ for employment before they graduate. We also hope to make use of various of our hotel’s culinary professionals as we continuously cooperate with the school to provide rich teaching activities.”

With the support of the university, the Department of Hotel and Restaurant Management been working to enrich its professional equipment and resources. For instance, it’s newly built baking classroom, which has acquired national Class B and Class C certifications, serves as a perfect practice venue for national competitors from the department. One such competitor, Yutong Chang, recently won the gold medal in the 52nd National Skills Competition in the Western Desert Making category.

The department’s newly formed alliance with the IHG hotel in Tainan will serve as yet another valuable asset to its students. InterContinental Hotels Group is the second largest hotel operator in the world. As students take part in internships at their Crowne Plaza hotel in Tainan, they will be opened up to a wide variety of new resources and opportunities and will be able to learn new skills to bring their professionalism to the next level.
