Vietnam’s Thai Nguyen University and National Pingtung University of Science and Technology in Taiwan first began their sister-school partnership back in 2006. Seventeen years later, the relationship is still strong, and the two schools are ready to pursue new areas of cooperation with one another. In order to reaffirm their relationship, a delegation from Vietnam visited NPUST on August 22nd to sign an extension to their sister-school agreement. Thai Nguyen University President Hoang Van Hung and Ha Giang Branch President Luc Quang Tan lead the group from Thai Nguyen, whose members also included Human Resources Director Nguyen Xuan Truong, HR Training Center Director Nguyen Tuan Minh, and National Defense Education Center Director Dinh Van Long.
A meeting was held at the NPUST Administrative Building, where NPUST President Chin-Lung Chang welcomed the guests for a time of exchange prior to signing a renewal. Arrangements were also made to provide the Thai Nguyen representatives a tour of the NPUST Smart Mechatronics Hall and Smart Agricultural Machinery Center. The locations were selected to put the spotlight on some of the future talent cultivation goals NPUST has established for itself, including the simultaneous development of smart agriculture and smart industry.
In his speech, President Chin-Lung Chang said “since signing an agreement in 2006, NPUST and Thai Nguyen have enjoyed a great deal of cooperation through student exchanges and research, and have seen quite fruitful results in these areas. As we formalize the continuation of this sister-school partnership, I believe that we will see the relationship between the two universities continue to deepen as we draw on each other’s strengths and jointly create more possibilities in the future.”
Thai Nguyen University President Hoang Van Hung said “with the renewal of this contract, not only can we continue to cooperate closely on teacher visits and academic and technical exchanges, but we can also anticipate the joint cultivation of outstanding talent in the fields agriculture technology and electromechanical integration. We will also have the opportunity to provide more overseas study credits and internship opportunities for students from both schools.”
In 2012, NPUST and Thai Nguyen co-organized the Overseas Master’s of Business Administration, with main courses covering agricultural and industrial management. The program helped students in Vietnam increase their international competitiveness while providing them with a chance to study at NPUST. During the current visit, Director Hudson Hsu of the Smart Mechatronics Bachelor Degree Program, and Assistant Professor Pin-Yung Chen of the Department of Vehicle Engineering introduced the visitors from Vietnam to the Smart Mechatronics Hall and the Smart Agricultural Machinery Center. The two feature locations are representative of the university’s intention to cultivate industrial talents and continue to develop smart, unmanned vehicles. These areas will also serve as focal points for teaching and research cooperation between the two universities in the future.
