Student Affairs Office Hosts “Off-Campus Housing Landlords and Tenants Forum”

With nearly 10,000 students enrolled at NPUST in the 2023–2024 academic year and nearly 2,000 new students arriving this semester, the Office of Student Affairs’ Student Life Guidance Section held the “Off-Campus Housing Landlords and Tenants Forum” today (5/23) at 10:00 AM. Nearly 50 distinguished off-campus housing landlords and students participated, including several landlords providing accommodations for more than 100 tenants. The event served not only to recognize outstanding landlords but also to strengthen connections between the university and the community, jointly enhancing the support network for off-campus housing and ensuring students have safe and comfortable living environments.

Deputy Dean of Student Affairs Ya-Ling Wu expressed appreciation to the attending landlords and students. She noted that approximately 5,000 NPUST students live in off-campus housing, and landlords play a role akin to “off-campus parents,” providing essential care for students. On behalf of the university, she presented certificates of appreciation to landlords who have demonstrated exceptional contributions in safety management, supporting disadvantaged students, and assisting with housing-related matters. She emphasized that the forum fosters improved communication and positive interactions between landlords and student tenants.

The forum featured a special lecture by Chief Kuo-Liang Chung from the Pingtung County Government Land Administration Section, covering key topics such as legal considerations for renting, the Rental Housing Act, common rental disputes, and property management programs. The Longquan Fire Brigade also provided fire safety education. During the discussion, landlords responded to students’ questions and reminded them to pay attention to deadlines for rental subsidy applications, while encouraging the university to further promote related information. This exchange helped raise awareness of safety responsibilities among landlords.

NPUST remains committed to creating a safer and more comfortable living environment for students. The university provides comprehensive information support, including the Ministry of Education–supported NPUST Off-Campus Housing Information Platform, which offers rental guidelines, housing checklists, FAQs on common rental disputes, and listings of rental properties with certified fire safety inspections—updated regularly by the university. Additionally, the campus green-energy shuttle bus routes include stops at off-campus housing areas, further enhancing convenience and safety. Through continued cooperation between the university, landlords, and the community, NPUST strives to build an improved and reliable support system for students living off campus.
