On June 3rd (Saturday) at 9:00 AM, the Department of Soil and Water Conservation will host the “2023 NPUST Soil and Water Conservation Outdoor Classroom – Soil and Water Conservation Month Promotion and Family Hiking Activity” at the university’s outdoor classroom. This event will focus on promoting soil and water conservation through educational and family-friendly hiking activities. We have invited various organizations, including the Soil and Water Conservation Bureau of the Council of Agriculture, its Tainan and Taitung Branches, the Water Resources Bureau of Kaohsiung City Government, the Water Resources Office of Pingtung County Government, the governments of Chiayi City and Nantou County, the Pingtung County Fire Department, and the Fengshan Branch of the Agricultural Research Institute, among others, to join this event. The event is also open to the public, with an expected participation of over 300 people.

The goal of the event is to enhance public understanding of the importance of soil and water conservation. By sharing outdoor educational resources and supporting practical actions, we aim to introduce systematic knowledge and offer a rich, diverse learning experience. The event will create a high-quality outdoor learning environment where “learning can happen anywhere, and everyone can be a teacher,” sparking public interest in knowledge, bridging the gap between classrooms and textbooks, and encouraging learning in nature. This broader learning scope and perspective will help achieve the educational goals of soil and water conservation.

Through professional explanations and experiential learning, the event will integrate visual, auditory, and tactile experiences, embedding the concepts of national land conservation and disaster prevention into the minds of participants. Both adults and children are encouraged to join the soil and water conservation efforts, working together to protect Taiwan, promote sustainable conservation practices, and achieve the goals of sustainable agriculture and environmental management.

The event will also emphasize fire safety, landslide prevention, and self-disaster prevention awareness. These concepts will take root and gradually bear fruit, integrating with daily life. The importance of environmental sustainability and respect for the land will be conveyed to all participants, contributing to the shared goal of creating a beautiful new homeland. Additionally, with the rainy season approaching, the event will remind everyone to strengthen their precautions against soil and water-related disasters and to protect the natural environment.
