In recent years, climate change has become a global concern, and environmental education serves as a universal language internationally. The Department of Forestry, in collaboration with the Chingjing Lin Educational Foundation, has jointly initiated the “Embark on Tree Planting” event, held at the Darensi Forest Station on October 14, 2020. This marks the second edition of the event, led by Director Wang Chih-Chiang and a professional team from the Department of Forestry. The team carefully selected suitable climates, terrains, and environmentally beneficial seedlings to implement the “Rural Mountain Advocacy” spirit. Several research partners from the university accompanied and guided the initiative, reinforcing public awareness of green energy and carbon reduction. The project, initiated by the Chingjing Lin Educational Foundation and the industry-academic project of the Department of Forestry, has received enthusiastic support from various enterprises. Vice President Duan Zhao-Lin, Director Wang Chih-Chiang, a team from NPUST, Yen Han-Ming, the general manager of the Agricultural Bank, Chuang Ching-Hui, the secretary-general of the Taimali Agricultural Association, and Lin Tsung-Lin, the chairman of the Chingjing Lin construction team, joined forces with over a hundred corporate volunteers and students. They actively engaged in tree planting, setting an example and simultaneously organizing a Forest Chef Competition. This not only encouraged employees to plant trees but also added fun and creativity, fostering a sense of unity within the enterprise. The first edition of the event, held last year, achieved a survival rate of over 90% for the planted seedlings. This year, more enterprises are invited to participate, hoping to further promote this environmental protection trend among businesses.

Taiwan has a total forest area of approximately 2.19 million hectares, with a total of about 950 million trees, accounting for 60% of the country’s land area. Forestry plays a crucial role in the benefits to the nation and its people. In response to the era of global warming, tree planting and afforestation carry significant implications for national security, carbon reduction, and increased oxygen levels. The trend of corporate tree planting and afforestation has gained momentum, with many enterprises actively calling for volunteers to participate.
