Minister Lin Wan-I Speaks at Department of Social Work Master’s Lecture Series

The Department of Social Work Master’s Lecture Series was launched in 2024 in conjunction with the National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST) 100th Anniversary Project, and is expected to become a regularly occurring large-scale lecture event. On April 22, Minister without Portfolio Lin Wan-I of the Executive Yuan was specially invited to give a lecture at 3:20 pm in the International Conference Hall on the fourth floor of the university’s Library and Exhibition Hall. Minister Lin was the first major guest to participate in the Master’s Lecture Series. NPUST President Chin-Lung Chang, Department of Social Work Director Kui Kasirisir, and Library Director Shan-Ru Chao jointly welcomed Minister Lin at the opening. Both a Taiwanese politician and social work scholar, Minister Lin shared his in-depth insights from the field of social welfare in his master’s lecture on the topic of “Current Situations and Prospects on the Development of the Social Work Profession in Taiwan”.

In his lecture, Minister Lin emphasized the importance of the “Long-term Care 2.0” project, which works to strengthen the social safety net, improve the treatment of social workers, and ensure their personal safety. He mentioned that as society ages, Taiwan urgently needs to strengthen long-term care services to cope with the growing demand. Starting from the perspective of social workers regarding the changes in the general environment, social work services need to address the functional requirements of all levels in today’s society, whether it be the elderly, children, women, indigenous peoples, disadvantaged groups, people with disabilities, military personnel, or public education providers. Minister Lin shared details on the network established by the central government and local units with the students, and discussed the future of development in the field of social work field.
