Associate Executive Director Jian He-Lin from our university’s Office of Sustainable Development organized the “2022 Youth Sustainable Rooting Project – SDGs Empowerment Workshop” on October 4, 2022. The event, held in collaboration with Uni-President Convenience Store and U-Like Green Sustainable Services Co., Ltd., took place at the Underground Innovation Classroom of the Library and Exhibition Hall on our campus. The aim was to encourage students to understand and engage with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through interdisciplinary general education courses, fostering a sustainable mindset. The event sought to integrate the new values of sustainable living with actions, encouraging students to practice sustainability in their daily lives and contribute to the well-being of our only planet.
Associate Executive Director Jian He-Lin led 87 students from the general education course “Systems Thinking and Public Issues” to participate in the workshop. The event kicked off with a presentation by Zhang Wei-Shan, the Director of Sustainability Services at U-Like Green, who shared insights into sustainability trends and explained what SDGs are. Starting with the issue of global warming, she illustrated the relevance of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to our lives. The session aimed to convey that sustainability is not a distant concept but something that can be initiated in everyday life, emphasizing that small individual changes can bring about significant global impact.
Representing Uni-President Convenience Store, Xue Si-Yan, Manager of the Public Affairs Department, shared corporate SDGs cases related to sustainable practices such as reducing plastic packaging and encouraging the use of eco-friendly cups. This showcased the commitment of the corporate sector and invited students, as consumers and future professionals, to respond collectively. An interactive Q&A session was conducted, encouraging students to express their opinions and enhancing mutual engagement to deepen their understanding of the topics.
The second part of the event involved an interactive board game, the U-Like Green Sustainable Board Game – “Step by Step,” which allowed students to gain a deeper understanding of SDGs. The game led students through environmental, social, and governance (ESG) dimensions, SDGs cases, and group discussions. Through role-playing different scenarios, groups collaboratively worked to eliminate potential risks and build a well-rounded sustainable city, facilitating learning about various sustainability issues and knowledge through the game.
The workshop, spanning three hours, provided a rich and engaging experience, incorporating all 17 Sustainable Development Goals. It guided students to appreciate sustainability issues in the ESG domain, inspiring them to integrate sustainability into their daily lives. The event emphasized that small changes in daily life can contribute significantly to global changes, encouraging students to collectively contribute to the planet’s sustainability.
