The Taiwan Representatives Office in Guam, Guam’s Deputy Governor Joshua Tenorio, and the University of Guam were joined by six Taiwan universities for an online summit and a Memorandum of Cooperation signing ceremony on September 22. The six participating academic institutions from Taiwan included National Pingtung University of Science and Techonology (NPUST), National Taitung University, National Chung Hsing University, National Chin-Yi University of Technology, Chaoyang University of Technology, and Yuan Ze University.

During the summit, NPUST placed emphasis on agricultural sustainability and university social responsibility (USR). Their vision combines cross-domain research, smart agriculture, forest conservation, wildlife conservation, soil and water conservation, agricultural waste management, and the promotion of the aboriginal economies. The results from their work in these areas over the past several years where presented during the forum.

NPUST hopes to cooperate with the University of Guam in the fields of biological resources, aquaculture, sustainable agriculture, and food processing. The two university’s may also organize joint online courses, short-term exchanges, summer camps and bilateral research projects to promote exchange and enhance research capacity.
