2020 The training courses of Taiwan jewel orchid and mushrooms on logs for the under-forest economy
Professor Mei-Hui Chen Community Forestry Center
Department of Forestry, NPUST
With the promotion of policies such as the Satoyama Initiative, the under-forest economy, the national ecological green network, regional revitalization, and the sixth-sector industrialization over the past ten years, the Forest Bureau decided to include the under-forest economy as a permitted item in the forestry regulations in 2019. Farmers can apply for moderate management in forestland, and can produce forest beekeeping products, Taiwan jewel orchid, mushrooms on logs, and wood ear fungus without destroying the environment, making the under-forest economy an important strategy to revitalize the economic, cultural and environmental sustainability of mountain villages. In response to the demand, the Community Forestry Center continued to offer a series of courses related to the theme of the under-forest economy in 2020. These include theoretical and practical courses such as Taiwan jewel orchid, and Mushrooms on logs. It is expected to help tribal community workers to gain a deeper understanding of the policy, knowledge and skills that promote the under-forest economy, as well as practical experiences from field-based learning.
